Transportation

It's easy to get to Michigan City. Find driving directions to the Guest House or see how to get here with public transportation:

  • The South Shore Passenger Line is an easy way to get to and from Michigan City from as far away as Chicago, Illinois.
  • Once you're here, Michigan City's Transit System can get you within walking distance of Tryon Farm Guest House and back to the city's main attractions. The bus costs $2.00.

Restaurants

Folks have lots of choices for dining in Michigan City. Our recommendations often direct our guests to a few of our favorite casual restaurants. Don't miss Sahara Restaurant for some fantastic Mediterranean cuisine, and great customer service in an urban atmosphere. At Stop 50 you'll find many of the locals sharing in this unique neighborhood eatery with seasonal outdoor seating. Or try a fantastic hamburger in a former train depot at Swing Bellies on the lakefront.

Getting Outside

Once you're here, Michigan City has more to offer than just top-notch shopping at the Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets. A ten minute drive to the Indiana Dunes includes a visit to a restored French Canadian homestead, a 1900-era farm, hiking dunes, and pristine beaches.

Michigan Cityvisitors have been visiting two area attractions for many years. Don't miss a visit with the kids to the Washington Park Zoo. The Old Lighthouse Museum can be found in Millennium Plaza, Washington Park and is a great place to watch a sunset.

If you want to explore more of Northwest Indiana, a day trip on the back roads around Indiana's Amish Country is a simple pleasure that shouldn't be missed. Football fans may visit Notre Dame to take in a game or simply visit the campus to see the gilded golden dome, and the stadium where thunder shakes down from the sky.
